About the ITASA 2007 East Coast Conference
For the ITASA 2007 East Coast Conference, we will redefine our community’s vision, move beyond questions of who we are, and instead address the question of who we will become. Our premise is that the world we have is not enough—our purpose is to explore the future we can create together. The questing spirit is similar to that in the phrase: “不進則退”—if we do not advance, we will retreat. Only by educating ourselves about the sources of past achievements and discussing how to move beyond them can we Taiwanese-Americans continue to surpass all expectations.
What is ITASA?
中文
The Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Students Association (ITASA) was established by a group of students in the East Coast and Midwest who wanted to see the Taiwanese American college community grow. These individuals realized that college students have different needs from Taiwanese Americans of other age groups, and no one could understand these needs better than college students themselves.
Today, ITASA is a 501(c)(3) national organization staffed by students and recent graduates to serve their peers and their respective campuses. Over the years, ITASA has reached campuses from coast to coast and has brought thousands of students together to learn about and to address Taiwanese American issues. ITASA provides the spaces for networking, community-building, leadership training and identity-forging that are critical to the future of Taiwanese American generation.

About Harvard Taiwanese Cultural Society
The Harvard-Radcliffe Taiwanese Cultural Society is an undergraduate student organization at Harvard University dedicated to promoting the culture and heritage of Taiwanese-Americans. TCS sponsors a wide variety of activities to increase awareness of Taiwanese culture and Taiwanese-American issues on the Harvard campus. Its goal is to provide forums of education, discussion, and cultural exchange for all who are interested in learning about Taiwan.
Events range from the cultural to the educational, encompassing a spectrum of activities. These events include muogi and dumpling making, annual 2-28 commemorations, discussions on Taiwan's international situation, guest lecturers and speakers, and intercollegiate karaoke and tea house nights. This past February, over 300 people attended the annual Taiwan Winter Festival, an evening of Taiwanese food, exhibits, workshops, and Taipei night market festivities.
In addition to these on-campus efforts, TCS also reaches out to Taiwanese student organizations at other Boston schools. In September of 1997, TCS jointly established the Boston Intercollegiate Taiwanese Students Association (BITSA), an organization devoted to facilitating interactions between all Taiwanese and Taiwanese-American students in the Boston area. In 1998 and 1999, TCS hosted the first two annual BITSA conferences that drew over 200 people each. Today, TCS continues to play an active role in BITSA, participating in activities such as the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life as part of the BITSA team.
