ITASA Night Market

Friday, 5:30-8:00PM

Modeled loosely after the lively night markets that light up Taiwan's city streets after night falls, Night Market's activities are as variegated as the selection in the best ice cream shop--and just as colorful and sweet. Groups from all parts of Stanford's colorful Asian American community are coming together to bring you two intense hours of games, food, and all sorts of fun. Try your hand (or feet) at some DDR, cool down with some ai yu jelly, and then roam around some more to take in as much of the festivities as you can!

Asian Culture Night

Come watch a breathtaking array of cultural performances by groups ranging from Stanford's famous Taiko to Kayumanggi. Chill out!

Friday, 11:00pm

After the Asian Culture Night, return to your host rooms to get some rest in preparation for tomorrow's long day or hang out with your hosts and other conference attendants in the same dorm.

Banquet at the Sheraton Hotel

Saturday, 7:00-10:00pm
Look your best for the formal closing banquet for Stanford ITASA 2007 at the Sheraton Hotel in Palo Alto. Guest speakers are movie star Collin Chou, Rubik's Cube champion Tyson Mao, and film producer Will Tiao. Entertainments include The Audiologues.

Speaker: Collin Chou

Collin Chou - Born in Taiwan to a large family with 8 brothers and 4 sisters, Collin Chou began martial arts training at the age of 5. When he was 12, he started his film career as a stunt man before landing his first leading role at age 18. After completing his 2 years of military service in Taiwan, Collin moved to Hong Kong to pursue acting.

Collin, who performs the majority of his own stunts, has appeared in over 30 feature films for top action directors such as Sammo Hung, Yuen Woo Ping, Corey Yuen, and Tsui Hark.

In 1999, Collin decided to move to the U.S. to pursue higher education. During that time, he made his break into Hollywood. His first two American films The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, Chou played the role of Searph, the protector of the Oracle. Since then, he has appeared in both action and non-action American and Asian films. His recent works include American Fusion, a romantic comedy; Fearless, a Jet Li action film; and DOA: Dead or Alive, an action film based on a computer game directed by Corey Yuen.

Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, Chou currently lives in Los Angeles and enjoys spending time in school to improve himself when he isn’t working on location.

Speaker: Tyson Mao

Tyson Mao holds many records in Rubik's Cube competitions.

Speaker: Will Tiao

Born and raised in Manhattan, Kansas, Will Tiao worked in international politics for a decade before entering the entertainment industry. Originally a cello performance major, Will chose to pursue his passion in politics by studying international relations at Tufts University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and at the Political Science Institute in Paris, France. Afterwards, he received his masters degree in international affairs from Columbia University.

Will began working in politics as an intern at the Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA), lobbying for Taiwan’s entrance into the United Nations. He then went on to work in the federal government in various capacities, as a Presidential Management Intern in the Clinton Administration, a legislative fellow for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, and as a negotiator on international trade agreements under President Bush II.

In the summer of 2002, Will left his position with the U.S. government to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He has worked consistently as an actor, producer, and writer/translator for TV, film, and the stage. He is the executive producer, co-writer, and lead actor of the award-winning film, A Starbucks Story, which won several awards at the 2005 FAIF Film Festival, including the Audience Award for Best Short Film, and the Audience Award for Best Film of the Festival. Will recently wrapped production on the independent film Stan¸ where he served as producer and actor.

Will is the founder of Formosa Films LLC, a film production company based in Los Angeles. The initial project from Formosa Films is the political thriller Formosa Betrayed, which Will is executive producing. Based on actual events, this feature film is the story of one detective’s investigation of the harassment, torture, and murder of Taiwanese-American activists in the 1970s and 80s. Will recently was offered and accepted a directorship position on the board of the Formosa Foundation, a non-profit organization that dedicates itself to the advancement of human rights, democracy, and the right to self-determination for Taiwan.

Performer: The Audiologues

Currently based in Columbus, Ohio, the Audiologues is an alternative rock band officially formed in the 4th Quarter of 2005. Existing only in theory prior to then, the band came across a major obstacle that delayed its actual conception: geography. While Ryan and Chris were both college students in Cincinnati, Richard was pursuing his undergraduate degree in New Jersey. Plagued by differing academic schedules, heavy course loads, and a distance of approximately 700 miles, the trio rarely found time to rehearse with each other while they were all in school. Not until Richard graduated in 2005 were they able to finally come together as a band, choosing to settle in Chris’ hometown of Columbus, Ohio—the mecca of all things uninteresting.

Influences are vast and plentiful, the most notable, however, being those of the BritPop genre, including the likes of Radiohead, Coldplay, Muse, Aqualung, and the Beatles. Each member of the Audiologues is originally a classically trained musician, and as a result, some classical influences can be heard in the group’s music as well.

Their self-produced debut album, Colony EP (February 2006), has recently been followed by a sophomore album, Cartel EP (October 2006). Teaming up with producer Nic Hard (The Bravery, The Church, Aberdeen City), The Audiologues have put together a 4-song record that has already captured significant attention regionally and across the country, winning “Critics’ Pick” at the 2006 MidPoint Music Festival.
